A Quick Checklist to Your Cat's Health
Whether you are a new cat owner or you have had your cat for years, you need to know simple steps to take in keeping your feline healthy and happy. Here are a few ideas to keep your furry little buddy in good feline health.
Avoid Obesity
Just like their human counterparts, cats can suffer from being overweight and it can bring subsequent health issues that can be hard on the cat and very distressing and costly to the cat's owner. Feed your cat once a day and avoid feeding it table scraps of “human food”. Most of the stuff we eat is terrible for us and we are quite a bit larger in size so it makes sense that our human food would be really detrimental to the feline health of your cat.
A cat that eats our food can became overweight and suffer health problems much faster than a human can so I cannot stress enough that it is a very bad idea to share your food with your pet. If you have any questions as to what would be healthiest for your cat try having a discussion with someone at your local pet store. They have the appropriate food to assure you cat's health at every stage of its life. Try playing with your cat regularly because your kitty could use the exercise.
Get Your Cat Neutered or Spayed
In most cases you want to get your cat neutered or spayed before 6-7 months. If you want to breed your cat or you don't get to it soon enough you can get your cat fixed as soon as it is convenient.
Vaccinate
I can't stress enough how important it is to get your cat vaccinated. The very first of these should be the distemper shot. Many of he vaccinations that are given can be updated at you cat's yearly health check with your Vet.
Control Hairballs
This is a problem that occurs predominantly in long hair cats. Hair collects in the intestinal track as a result of their grooming. All that licking will collect enough hair to make a hairball. Contact your vet if this seems to be a problem as there are several fairly easy ways to get rid of hairballs. You can do your part to control this problem by brushing your cat daily.
Ear Mites
Ear Mites can be very uncomfortable for your cat. If you find that your cat is scratching too much and you see a dark wax in your cat's ears, you might want to take you cat to the Vet. They will have medicine that can be prescribed for ear mites and you must be diligent in treating this as it can come back very easily.
These are just a few things that you can do to insure your pet's continued good health. To make sure you have everything under control for feline health it is a good idea to have a yearly check-up with your local vet.
