How to Choose The Perfect Cat Name (Suggestions Included)
It can be difficult to find a selection of
cat names to choose from for your new cat but there are plenty of web sites on the Internet that offer lists of popular cat names and other interesting ideas for naming your cat.
The name that you choose for your cat should say something about your cat, but you should also know that it says a lot about you too and the relationship you have with your cat. You need to be wary of what you name your cat because some cat names can cause other people to improperly judge your cat and react differently to it, either in a negative way or positive way, just by the name your cat has.
There are a variety of ways to choose to name your cat and choose a variety of cat names to pick from – in some cases you may want to look to the origin of your cat for an inspiring name, such as an Oriental name for a Japanese Bobtail or Siamese or a Thai name for a Korat. In other cases, your cat’s behavior, appearance and personality are the inspiration for your cat names.
Choosing cat names
Here are some tips for choosing cat names to help you better name your cat:
- Choose a one or two syllable name so that your cat can recognize and better respond to the name you chose.
- If you choose a longer name for your cat, keep in mind what it will be shortened to because if your cats name is long, you will likely shorten it.
- Keep in mind the origin of your cat for inspiration, such as Siamese and Burmese oriental names.
- Don’t rush in to name your cat – sometimes the personality and behavior of your cat will help you choose just the right name for your cat.
- Choose a name that will grow-up with your kitten to cat-hood. Naming your kitten ‘Kitten’ is cute when they are one, but not so great when your kitten grows into a cat.
- It may be surprising for you to learn that more than 50 percent of cat names are given to cats based on human names and nick names.
Choosing cat names can be quite difficult, so we’ll look at some cat name categories to help you out, as well as a few
